This video looks at why women and people of color are often overlooked in autism diagnoses. Historical criteria were based on studies of white males, missing the unique presentations in women and diverse ethnic groups. Women often mask their symptoms to fit societal norms, and cultural differences affect how autism manifests, leading to misdiagnoses. We need more inclusive criteria for accurate diagnoses for everyone.
This video takes a look at the differences in Autistic interoceptive awareness - the internal awareness of physiological changes/needs, emotional sensations and the existential awareness of self.
In this video, I share my experiences as a neurodivergent counsellor and life coach managing chronic illness. I discuss the challenges of maintaining consistency and energy, exploring concepts like Spoon Theory. I also delve into the impact of internalized ableism and how it affects self-perception and mental health. With personal stories, I highlight the frustrations of living with an invisible, dynamic disability, offering support and insights for others facing similar challenges. Join me as I navigate this journey and advocate for greater understanding and acceptance.
